Our online forum has commenced. There are 9 people who have signed up. Welcome to our experiment. To open discussion I like to hear people's experience so far with Web 2.0 tools. Please relate any experiences both positive and not so positive.
Hi everyone, Long time no speak. In terms of Web 2.0 tools, primarily in the Library we have set up a favorite books blog and a Delicious account so that staff can bookmark websites of use. There is also a wiki which I haven't progressed past the point of setting up.
However, because I teach ICT I have been able to use Ning to set up a virtual classroom which is working extremely well because it looks like a facebook or myspace page. So the students love it and we use it not only for educational exchanges but also social.... PS To ALIA Schools girls, hope all of you are well....c u soon :)
Yesterday I discovered this page http://cooltoolsforschools.wikispaces.com/ thanks to Judith Way at Bright ideas - plan to explore and use beginning with Mosaic maker for book titles as per listing - When???? I am interested to hear how people keep abreast of the many tools available - obviously we can't use them all even though so many look so good. We have an Emerging Tehcnologies committee here which includes a library staff member and several teachers and we have thus been able to keep Web 2.o tools at the forefront. It means that teachers go away and develop skills which can then be shared. Cheers Kris Ps Hope you too are well Gen
I am posting this comment from home as I am unable to use a blog at work due to the Network Manager's concerns about the safety of the network. Has anyone else experienced this difficulty? Our English teachers are using wikis to get student feedback about their wide reading. The students' wiki comments are assessed. Good to hear from you Gen. Regards Sandra
I think it really helps to have a clear focus what you want the web 2.0 tools to do for you so that you can then sell them positively to students, staff and management. In a busy environment though, online tools can work better at disseminating information than paper notices on a board - so persevere with exploration. We're using a wiki amongst staff for everyone to add literature links to, and twitter to network amongst librarians in the wider community.
Hi ALIA Schools people This year I have been working on converting my old "My Internet /My Classes" page to a wiki using PB Works. I love it! PB Works is very easy to use, I think, much easier than My Internet although perhaps the skills I learnt from My Internet made it possible for me to "guess" how to use the wiki. I have made it public so that our students can view pages without logging in. This does restrict me from including pictures of students but I still am satisfied with the digital resources I am able to make available to the college community using this technology given my time constraints (I am the only TL). Have a look if you like: http://learningresourcecentre.pbworks.com/ It is of course a work in constant progress. It has gotten to the size where I am currently developing a site map to help me reorganise the structure. I love the wiki for its collaborative nature. All library staff members here have been able to contribute something and I am alerted to any changes so I can keep an eye on what is posted by others. I have also created a wiki for the professional learning team of which I am a member and this has proved that learning ICT skills as an adult can even be fun!
